Last Saturday was a very sad and tragic day. The attempted assassination of former President Trump shocked the world. It was a 21st century shot heard around the world. It is the most serious assassination attempt on one of our leaders since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. Within an hour Nella tweeted on X:
“Our prayers are with President Trump, with the supporters and law enforcement on site, and with our country today. More than ever we must come together as a nation.”
On Sunday, Nella was interviewed on KOAT. Here is Nella’s interview:
Nella sent a personal note to Donald Trump and one to Melania. No one can deny that the former president reacted decisively, and showed strength and composure under fire. We all mourn the loss of life and the injuries suffered by Trump supporters.
In addition to remarks on camera, Nella said “This tragedy reminds us that we need to start treating one another with respect and compassion, as Americans, not adversaries.”
Q2: Record-breaking Fundraising
June 30th was the end of Q2 fundraising period. Nella’s team raised $2.9 million which was the largest fundraising quarter of any U.S. Senate candidate in New Mexico political history.

This accomplishment, plus recent polling data shows Nella in a dead heat with Martin Heinrich. It attracted the attention of Fox News, The Washington Examiner and Breitbart.
On Sunday morning, Nella woke up to a great op-ed in the Albuquerque Journal written by Joe Lujan, one of the campaign’s Bernalillo County Co-Chairs!
He started out, “New Mexico, long considered a Democratic stronghold, is now emerging as a critical battleground in the 2024 elections. This unexpected shift can be attributed to several factors, including a changing political landscape and strategic maneuvers by Republican candidates.”

On The Road
📍On the Road Last Week
Last week highlighted two important sectors in New Mexico’s economy—oil and gas and arts and culture tourism. Nella was an active participant in both.
The Independent Petroleum Producers (IPANM) had their annual meeting Thursday and Friday. Nella hosted a reception. The next day Nella attended most of the substantive issue sessions. Federal legislative and state issues were very informative. It is clear that the industry is under attack.
Overlapping with the IPANM meetings, the International FolkArt Market (IFAM) in Santa Fe was taking place. The next edition of Nella News will say more about Nella’s involvement in the market.
Nella is looking forward to Spanish Market which showcases traditional New Mexican, Hispanic art—wood carving, tinwork, colcha embroidery, straw encrusted crosses, bultos, retablos, ramilletes, and pottery. Indian Market is in August and Nella has both events marked her calendar.
ICYMI: Heinrich Backtracks
Nella released the below statement regarding Martin Heinrich’s latest comments about Joe Biden’s candidacy, which The New York Times’ reported Hollywood mega-donors urged Heinrich to drop his support for Biden or else he threatened “you are not getting a dime from me.” Heinrich dropped his support today.
“Instead of having the courage to do this weeks or months ago, Martin Heinrich put poll numbers, Hollywood donor cash, and his political career ahead of the crises facing New Mexico families,” said Nella Domenici. “It wasn't the unaffordable prices, unsafe streets, and an unsecured border that made Heinrich ditch Biden; it was campaign cash, special interest, and his increasingly narrow re-election prospects.”
Nella continued: “This is why New Mexico desperately needs independent and courageous leadership, not more of the same Biden and Heinrich failure we have experienced the last three years.”
Heinrich’s new comments were made following a meeting with a Hollywood mega-donor who told him, “you are not getting a dime from me” if you don’t call on Joe Biden to withdraw the race. Heinrich did precisely that today. The New York Times reported, “Tom Strickler, a founder of the Hollywood talent agency WME, said he had recently met in Los Angeles with Senator Martin Heinrich, Democrat of New Mexico. “If you don’t publicly call for Biden to step aside,” Mr. Strickler said he told Mr. Heinrich’s team on Thursday morning, “you are not getting a dime from me.”
Last week, Nella Domenici's largest fundraising haul of any U.S. Senate candidate in New Mexico political history far exceeded Martin Heinrich's second quarter fundraising numbers. Plus, Nella’s dominant fundraising quarter comes on the heels of two pre-presidential debate polls showing the New Mexico U.S. Senate race statistically tied or nearly tied.
Heinrich’s campaign has been in crisis as they have released evolving statements over the course of the last two weeks.
