Nella Domenici Releases New Campaign Ad, “Solutions,” Addressing Mental Illness Crisis

“Nella and her family have dedicated their lives to addressing this crisis, working with a bipartisan task force to better integrate mental health into primary care, focusing on better care and resources to tackle these issues without stigma or shame.”

Albuquerque, NM -  U.S. Senate candidate Nella Domenici released a new ad this week, titled “Solutions,” which focuses on curtailing the mental illness crisis. The ad highlights Nella’s family story, and the bipartisan work Nella and her family have accomplished to improve behavioral health, improve understanding and treatments for mental illness.

Watch Here:

Mental illness is devastating our state and our country—addiction alone—to alcohol and drugs is destroying thousands of lives every year.  Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) is debilitating thousands of our veterans. Our youth and seniors suffer from anxiety and depression. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder can crush families financially and exhaust them emotionally. Understanding the repercussions break the collective hearts of our nation.

Americans and New Mexicans need a champion to make sure the federal government puts more funding into research on the brain.  We need thousands more behavioral health care providers, psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers. We need more behavioral health care centers. Too many don’t have anywhere to go for treatment. Many end up homeless or in prison and it is a national ruinous loss of human potential.

The ad is personal for Nella because her sister suffers from schizophrenia. As a family, the Domenicis have worked with Republicans and Democrats to deliver better care and more resources for those facing mental health struggles, bringing reforms to the mental healthcare system.

Nella knows more must be done to address this serious issue which is in desperate need of leadership.

For the last 35 years, Nella has been a leader advocating for greater awareness and care for mental illness-related issues. In her 20s, Nella joined NARSAD, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression as an initial board member. At the time it was the preeminent non-profit organization funding cutting-edge brain research related to mental illness. Since then it has become the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation. She has also been a supporter of NAMI, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, in various capacities. Nella was a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center Task Force on behavioral health integration, working alongside leaders like Patrick Kennedy. Nella also helped build and grow several technology companies, developing innovative ways to serve the mentally ill community.
