“I oppose any federal ban. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare… We need to do a much, much better job of helping women have the best education, access, and the best [birth control] choices available to them.” - Nella Domenici
Albuquerque, NM – U.S. Senate candidate Nella Domenici released a new ad this week, titled “Trusted,” which focuses on reducing unintended pregnancies, through better use of birth control and education.
Nella approaches the issue with compassion. All women should be trusted, respected, and supported. Babies should be wanted and loved. And men should live up to their responsibilities. New Mexicans expect us to approach important issues like this with a deep understanding of and empathy for the complexities.
Nella opposes any federal ban on abortion, abides by New Mexico’s policy on the issue, and believes abortion should be safe, legal, and rare.
To explain why Nella’s focus is on reducing unintended pregnancies, the following types of data compiled by the Guttmacher Institute substantiates and drives Nella's approach: “In the United States in 2015-2019, there were a total of 5,660,000 pregnancies annually. Of these, 2,590,000 pregnancies were unintended and 886,000 ended in abortion.”
This means that approximately one in two pregnancies is unintended, and one out of every three of these unintended pregnancies ends in an abortion. The Guttmacher Institute is the leading research and policy organization committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights in the United States. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report similar data.
This new ad series is backed by a six-figure media buy, and is part of a larger multi-million dollar advertising effort. The ad is on streaming, digital platforms, and broadcast television.
